CAT has appointed Stephen McShane to the post of Director of School Improvement.
Stephen will be based in the South West and will take up his post on 1st September 2016.
Stephen comes with a strong pedigree and background in the education sector. He worked for Ofsted as an HMI for nearly six years and as Senior Regional Adviser for the National Strategies. He was Principal Adviser for Additional Educational Needs in Somerset for three years and has a strong background as an Educational Psychologist, teacher and adviser in London before moving to the South West. Throughout his career Stephen has been passionate about improving the achievement of all children wherever they are taught. He has been a senior manager in both mainstream and special schools. He was the lead author of National Strategy publications to improve teaching and learning, bringing together national best practice, research material and his own practical experience of working with those who find learning challenging.
Most recently Stephen has worked as Director of Quality for the Priory Group of schools and added a strong business background to his already wide range of education expertise and leadership experience, growing the group and their organisational capacity whilst raising standards in their schools.
Stephen will work closely with the CEO and take a more direct involvement in the South West initially. His work will be Trust wide and influence Board thinking and it is our intention that Stephen has the opportunity to visit all our schools during the autumn.
CAT’s CEO, Kevin Crossley said “We are delighted to have attracted and secured such a high quality individual to the CAT family. I know Stephen will quickly add both additional capacity and experience of the sector to our central team.”
